Philadelphia animal rescue organization PAWS announced on Monday that it will build a new headquarters on Oregon Avenue in South Philadelphia. The 18,500-square-foot facility is designed to house all of the organization's core services under one roof.

PAWS, which has operated in the city for two decades, stated that it has outgrown its current spaces. The new building will provide three times the space of its existing locations. The organization cited rising demand for its services as the primary reason for the expansion.

The project replaces PAWS' existing operations in Grays Ferry and Old City. Following a lengthy search, the group purchased the South Philadelphia property and spent several years planning the construction. The facility is expected to open in late 2027.

Inside, the building will feature housing and treatment areas for rescued cats, dogs, and small animals. It will also include spacious examination rooms and modern surgical suites to support affordable veterinary care. Dedicated spaces will serve pet owners receiving assistance through the organization's Safety Net programs.

PAWS said the Northeast Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic will remain open and continue serving the community. The organization is currently running a fundraising campaign to help finance the construction of the new headquarters.
