Actor Alan Dysert died on Friday at the age of 75.

His wife, Michelle Dysert, confirmed the news in a post on her husband’s Facebook page. She described him as her partner and best friend, noting that while she struggles to imagine life without him, she is grateful for their shared time together.

Dysert is best known for his role on the ABC soap opera “All My Children.” He portrayed the character Sean Cudahy, a conman known for being devious yet humorous, across non-consecutive seasons from 1980 to 1990. His IMDb profile lists appearances in 79 episodes of the series.

The actor’s career extended beyond that single role. He starred in the 2006 family comedy “Two Weeks” alongside Sally Field. His most recent acting credit was in the Civil War film “The Legend of Van Dorn,” which released this year. Beyond acting, Dysert worked as a musician, writer, filmmaker, and producer. He spent recent years mentoring new actors and professional speakers, helping them overcome public speaking fears.

Dysert’s health struggles were public. He detailed his battle with cancer in a 2023 memoir titled “Lights, Camera, Cancer!” Michelle Dysert said her husband faced numerous health challenges over the years, though she did not specify the causes of death in her announcement. She noted that he approached life with determination, humor, and gratitude.

The cause of death was not immediately clear. His wife said that in his book, Dysert expressed a wish for his family to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. She recalled his adventurous spirit and his belief that the greatest treasures in life are people and experiences, not material things.

Michelle Dysert said her husband came from humble beginnings as a farm boy in Illinois. She added that even after many years of marriage, life with him was never boring because of his incredible storytelling gift and sense of humor.
