Two separate residences at 992 and 994 Old Pecos Trail demonstrate that the historic corridor still holds substantial family housing. Most visitors and daily commuters view the street as a dense cluster of small businesses, government offices, and high-end specialty shops. The presence of these two properties challenges the common assumption that the route, which historically linked downtown to the Pecos Pueblo and the Glorieta and Pecos valleys, is exclusively a commercial or administrative zone.

The structures were built in 2007 by architect Mark Hogan. He originally designed the complex with 992 serving as his primary residence and 994 functioning as his studio. The layout mirrors the spatial relationship between a main house and a casita, keeping the units distinct yet physically connected. This design creates a compound that offers a level of privacy rarely found in the immediate vicinity.

From the street, the adobe facades resemble the typical downtown buildings. However, the interior spaces provide a quiet, roomy, and private environment. The homes are described as comfortable and convenient, fostering a strong sense of connection to the neighborhood and the wider city. The design accommodates various demographics, including retirees, adults, parents, and children.

The properties offer flexibility and accessibility that distinguish them from the older, vintage homes in the area. While they may lack the age of some neighboring structures, they maintain a strong character suited for daily living. The arrangement allows residents to remain close to the urban center while retaining a secluded, residential feel within the busy corridor.
