20,237. That is the number of Cybertrucks Tesla sold in 2025, a sharp decline from the 38,965 units delivered the previous year. Elon Musk announced on Friday that production of the stainless-steel electric pickup will cease by mid-2027. The decision leaves buyers in Southern California with a limited window to purchase the vehicle before it is discontinued.

The Cybertruck has specific roots in Los Angeles County. Musk revealed the vehicle in 2019 at Tesla's Design Center in Hawthorne. Commercial production began in 2023. Tesla promoted the truck for its angular design, its ability to tow 14,000 pounds, and its durability against sledgehammers and firearms. Since launching, the vehicle has faced recalls for issues with the rearview camera, pedals, and other components.

Musk stated on X that Tesla will reduce Cybertruck output at its Texas factory to make room for the Cybercab. The Cybercab is a two-seat, self-driving electric taxi intended for Tesla's Robotaxi service. It lacks a steering wheel and pedals because it is designed to operate without a human driver. The new vehicle will take over production slots previously held by the pickup.

Sales figures from Kelley Blue Book show the Cybertruck lagging behind Musk's initial predictions. He had forecast annual sales of 250,000 units after production started. The truck has not met that target. Tesla's Model Y and Model 3 continue to account for the majority of the company's vehicle sales. The production change will shift focus to the autonomous taxi model in the coming year.
