The reigning MVP cites a lack of dialogue with the general manager as the primary reason for his move.

Nikita Kucherov, the reigning NHL MVP, has formally requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 33-year-old winger says the decision stems from a breakdown in communication with general manager Julien BriseBois rather than financial disagreements.
Kucherov is in the final year of an eight-year contract worth $76 million. He signed the deal in 2018, which is when he began his run of success that includes two Stanley Cup titles and three scoring titles. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Since making his debut in 2013, Kucherov has recorded 1,142 points in 892 regular-season games. That total ranks third among all players for that period, trailing only Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. He also holds the record for most playoff points in the same span with 177.
BriseBois has previously stated that the team aims to keep Kucherov as a core member of a perennial contender. In a statement last week, the general manager said the organization had no intention of moving the star player. BriseBois told reporters in mid-September that he and Kucherov's agent, Dan Milstein, would maintain open lines of communication to reach a new long-term deal.
Kucherov told reporters after practice on Monday that he and BriseBois had only two conversations in the last four months. He noted that BriseBois made it clear he was free to walk on July 1. Kucherov described the organization as the place where he was drafted and where his children grew up. He said the team meant everything to him and that he is forever grateful for the opportunities he received there.
The Lightning are currently 7-3-2. They have failed to advance past the first round of the playoffs in four consecutive years. Last month, Kucherov became the franchise's career points leader, surpassing former captain Steven Stamkos. Through 13 games this season, he has four goals and 14 assists for a team-leading 18 points.
Kucherov informed his teammates of his request before telling the public. He said he would continue to do everything he can to help the team win while he remains on the roster.
