Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin confirmed on Monday that the city has had no electricity for four consecutive days. He stated that repair crews have no forecast for when power will return.
The blackout began after Russian forces struck the Konotop hromada in the early hours of October 24. The attacks hit energy facilities, a school, and residential buildings. Semenikhin noted that most of the city also lost its gas supply.
Life in Konotop has shifted to a rigid schedule. Semenikhin said water is only available from 6:00 to 9:00 and again from 18:00 to 21:00. The local hospital now runs on generators, and educational institutions have sustained damage.
Semenikhin spoke to Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne and posted updates on Telegram. He said, "The city has no electricity and most of it has no gas." He added that the uncertainty surrounding the power grid remains high.
Sumyoblenergo, the regional power distribution company, said emergency teams are working around the clock. However, the company noted that the speed of repairs depends on the security situation. Crews must be able to safely access the damaged sites to complete the work.
A separate drone attack on the afternoon of October 24 hit a civilian agricultural business in the district. A 31-year-old farm worker was killed in that strike. Four other people were injured in the explosion.
