Iara Dossantos Bomfim faces ten felony counts of child abuse following a review of security footage from an Irvine home, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors state that Bomfim, 29, fled to Brazil in July after the infant’s mother discovered the abuse on a nanny cam. The mother checked the recording on July 11, 2026, after hearing her three-month-old son scream. Bomfim initially told the mother everything was fine, but the video showed the nanny sitting on a yoga ball while bouncing the baby so his head and neck moved back and forth and side to side. The footage also captures Bomfim punching the infant in the back of the head with a closed fist.

The alleged abuse began on June 17, 2026, when the baby was two months and ten days old. Prosecutors say the incidents of punching, hitting, and shaking continued until the child was just over three months old.

Bomfim was arrested on Friday after returning from Brazil. Prosecutors noted she was attempting to create a new account on Care.com to advertise her nanny services at the time of her arrest.

She has pleaded not guilty and is currently held on bail set at $500,000. If convicted on all ten counts, Bomfim faces a maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison.
