Cade Mower, a 35-year-old singer from Bluffdale, Utah, advanced to the top 13 of "The Voice" following his second performance on the show. The episode aired on November 3, featuring his Battle round appearance against fellow contestant Brayden Howell.

Mower described himself as a harsh critic of his own work. In a phone interview on October 27, he admitted to being deeply dissatisfied with how his duet of the Red Clay Strays' song "Wondering Why" turned out. He stated, "I’m very critical of that performance.. I was very, very upset with it."

The discomfort stemmed from changes made to the song's arrangement. The producers lowered the key to accommodate both singers, a register Mower felt did not showcase his strongest vocal range. To compensate, he made last-minute alterations to his parts. He said these changes, combined with the stop-and-go nature of television filming, disrupted his adrenaline and focus.

During the performance, Mower recalled entering the stage too early for his first note. He said that small error triggered a chain reaction of personal disappointments. On camera, however, he maintained a professional demeanor, smiling and swaying to the beat while delivering gritty vocals.

Coach Riley Green selected Mower to advance, sparing him from the immediate elimination of Cut Week. This specific week of the competition reduced the field from 28 contestants to 12. A 13th spot will be added next week based on viewer voting. Mower earned an automatic bid to the live shows, meaning he did not have to perform during the most recent episode.

Mower views his upcoming return to the stage as an opportunity for redemption. He plans to rely on 15 years of experience performing at bars to stay grounded. He said, "I know what I am, I know what I’m not.. I’m the guy that’s gonna just sing the song. I feel it and just sing it the way I sing it."

The competition has required significant personal adjustments. Mower has spent two months in Los Angeles over the last five months, away from his wife, Lindsey, and their two children, who are ages 2 and 1. He described the separation as heartbreaking but noted that it helped him become more present when he is at home.

Mower moved from Utah to Austin, Texas, to pursue music, where he met Lindsey at a venue where he was performing. The couple later relocated to Nashville to support his career. He sold a house he had just bought in Utah to fund the move, a financial decision he does not regret.

The singer's audition has garnered over 3 million views on YouTube, earning instant chair turns from all four coaches. He credits the show for opening doors and providing exposure that has intensified his passion for music. He currently continues to perform one or two shows a week while balancing his music career with his finance job and family life.
