Netflix has reduced its London workforce by up to 3% as part of a global restructuring effort. The cuts at the U.K. headquarters affect various departments, including publicity. This reduction follows a broader organizational overhaul that began in the United States last month.
Anna Mallett, vice president of physical production for the U.K. and EMEA, has also exited the company. Mallett was appointed to her role in 2020 after serving as CEO at news producer ITN. Prior to that, she held senior positions at BBC Studios. Her departure was initially reported by The Ankler.
The streamer’s international leadership changes coincide with the replacement of content chief Bela Bajaria. Peter Rice, who previously worked at Disney and Fox, has taken over Bajaria’s role. This personnel shift has raised questions about future strategies for international output.
Co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos have stated that their international business model remains unchanged. Peters noted on the company’s latest earnings call that local titles in Asia Pacific, Latin America, and EMEA continue to drive engagement. He argued that these regional productions are key to business growth.
Netflix launched several major U.K. series during Mallett’s tenure, including Baby Reindeer and Adolescence. The company confirmed that approximately 1,000 jobs were cut worldwide. The London headquarters specifically shed between 2% and 3% of its staff in the recent reorganization.
