USAA committed to funding a new statewide resource hub for military families raising children with disabilities in Maryland. The partnership was announced on October 20, 2026, and integrates state agencies with the financial services firm to streamline access to support services. This effort falls under USAA’s Honor Through Action initiative, a five-year national program with a total budget of $500 million.

The Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families leads the project, which centers on a toolkit and digital hub branded as “You’re Welcome Here.” The resource is designed to assist military-connected households in managing the logistical challenges of relocation. Development involves the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council, Parents’ Place of Maryland, and the state veterans department. The toolkit will be distributed in both print and digital formats, though officials have not yet set a public launch date.

The hub will organize information into four essential categories for incoming families. These include education services and the transfer of school support plans, health care providers and medical assistance, disability services and developmental support programs, and local community organizations. The goal is to reduce the administrative burden on parents who must re-establish care networks in a new state.

Military children experience six to nine relocations during their K-12 education. For families managing a child’s disability, each move can disrupt established medical care and educational arrangements. The initiative seeks to mitigate these disruptions by consolidating Maryland-specific information in a single, accessible location. Families can currently use the state’s Landing Zone Maryland resource directory while the new toolkit is finalized.

Beyond the toolkit, USAA funding will support two Maryland Joins Forces Mission Strong Summits. The fall summit focused on suicide prevention and community resilience. A second gathering is scheduled for spring 2027, where experts will discuss disability services and family assistance strategies. This dual approach combines direct resource access with professional networking for local service providers.

Maryland’s military-connected population includes more than 340,000 veterans. Another 131,000-plus active-duty personnel, National Guard and Reserve members, and family members reside in the state.
