Moviegoers can see Josh O'Connor in a live stage recording starting Nov. 5. National Theatre Live will release the filmed version of the play "Golden Boy" in theaters around the world.
The production played to sold-out houses at London's Almeida Theatre. It is based on a play by Clifford Odets and was directed by Sam Yates. O'Connor stars as Joe Bonaparte, a young violinist who turns to professional boxing for fame and fortune.
A new clip shows the character's conflict between his musical past and his current life. In the footage, O'Connor embraces an earlier version of himself playing the violin while his face bleeds from a boxing injury.
The cast also includes Hayley Squires and Daniel Mays. A live string quartet performs during the show. The footage was captured during a live performance at the Almeida Theatre.
This role marks O'Connor's first return to the London stage in five years. During that time, he won an Emmy for playing King Charles in "The Crown." He has also appeared in films such as "La Chimera," "Challengers," "Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man," and "Disclosure Day."
Tickets are available now through the National Theatre Live website. The screening begins on Nov. 5.
